Update: Daniels Parkway expansion surrounding the new Boston Red Sox spring training facility

Gateway Residents: Below is an update on the construction of Daniels Parkway east of I-75 leading up to, and beyond, Gateway. We are anxiously anticipating a smoother drive home next year!

The Lee County Department of Transportation (LC DOT) begins work to widen Daniels Parkway from four to six lanes from Chamberlin Parkway to Gateway Boulevard.

The majority of the widening along Daniels Parkway will take place within the median. Some minor shoulder widening and turn lane construction will occur along the outside lanes.

In addition, this project will mill and resurface Daniels Parkway from Treeline Avenue to Fuel Farm Road. Roadwork will generally progress from west to east and is expected to be complete in February 2012.

Occasional lane closures on Daniels Parkway may occur during the overnight/nighttime hours of 7 p.m. – 6 a.m.

The contractor will maintain four lanes of traffic on Daniels Parkway during daytime hours. Landscaping and irrigation will be installed in the median and will follow roadwork.

The contractor anticipates beginning the project at the Chamberlin intersection. In order to complete the necessary work in this area, Chamberlin Parkway is scheduled to be closed beginning Monday, February 21, 2011 between Daniels Parkway and Air Cargo Lane until the intersection construction is complete.

While this closure is in place, detour signs will direct motorists to use the Paul J. Doherty Parkway entrance to access the Skyplex Commercial Center. This closure is expected to be in place for approximately six months.
