Online Petition for a New High School in Gateway near Gateway Elementary

 

 

Wouldn’t it be great if we could send our kids to high school in our own neighborhood? WE HAVE THE CHANCE and need your help to make it happen.

In the next several months, the Lee County School Board is going to pick a site for a new East Zone High School, estimated to open in the fall of 2018. The most important location to Gateway is along Griffin Drive. It is a 50 plus acre site near Gateway Elementary; bordered by Griffin Drive, State Road 82 and the Magnolia Lakes subdivision.

One of the other two sites under consideration is on the land right next to Oak Hammock Middle School and Manatee Elementary on Tice Street near I-75. The third location is on Joel Boulevard near State Road 80 in Lehigh Acres.

As many of you know, because of school choice, charter schools and private schools our children in Gateway are often separated to go to school. We are sending our children to several different elementary, middle and high schools, depriving them of the chance to go to school with their closest friends. With a high school in Gateway, we can end some of that. A high school in Gateway will give our children 4 meaningful years together, create a rallying point for the neighborhood and give us a way to show our Gateway pride.

Rob Spicker a local Gateway resident and member of the Lee County School Board’s Construction Advisory Committee shared the above information.  He stated that in November and December the committee is will be reviewing, and then recommending the site for a new East Zone high school to open in August of 2018. The high school in Gateway would be a great thing to curb some of the stresses that come with the school choice decision making process.
