One of the more popular and authentic Italian restaurants in all of Fort Myers is set to open Meatballs Italian Kitchen Italian restaurant in Gateway the summer of 2017. The groundbreaking will take place this week. The total building space will be 5,700 square feet with Meatballs Italian Kitchen occupying approximately 2,700 square feet of that space.

The Current restaurant, Two Meatballs in the Kitchen, located at 8880 Salrose Lane, the street named after the owners Salvatore and Rose Basile, features a full traditional Italian menu but they have added a modern accent to create a unique experience. The new restaurant in Gateway will focus on quick service concept during the day to cater to local businesses in the area and a casual dining experience in the evening. The restaurant will have a total of 110 seats with 65 seats for indoor dining and 45 seats on the outdoor patio.

Sal Basile has been delivering authentic Italian food to Fort Myers for over 30 years, he started the original Nino’s on US41 that location was sold and there is another existing location on Daniels Parkway. He opened another Italian restaurant in the Bella Villa shops, close to his existing Two Meatballs location, which was named Bella Rosa after his wife. Salvatore would later sell that restaurant and get into real estate development. Sal purchased and helped develop 10 acres of land just west of the Bella Villa shops. Java Moon was his first tenant on the site he developed, however they were unable to succeed.  Sal, along with his wife and two sons, decided to open Two Meatballs in the Kitchen at that location and the endeavor became a highly successful decision.  So much so, that they are now expanding the concept to Gateway and hoping to continue that success.

If you are looking for a truly authentic Italian restaurant experience, then the new location should hopefully fulfill those expectations.  They join a long list of local and successful Gateway hospitality establishments like Boulevard Deli & Tavern, Fort Myers Brewing Company, Casa Lupita and Rock’n Sushi.
