Lee County Board of County Commissioners to Decide on the Removal of Trees from Gateway Boulevard<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n The Lee County Department of Transporatation (DOT) has deemed several trees on Gateway Boulevard hazardous and recommended their removal.\u00a0 With Lee County now in control of the roadway the Lee County Board of County Commissioners have the final vote on the outcome of the trees on Gateway Boulevard.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n The trees primarily at issue are the palm trees on Gateway Boulevard from SR82 to just South of Pebble Brook Boulevard (the Stoneybrook at Gateway entrance). The over a 1\/4 mile stretch of trees originally approved by Lee County when the builder planted them over 10 years ago may now be voted to be removed from the median.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n A Stoneybrook at Gateway board email to the community stated, “In 10 years the trees have slowed traffic on Gateway Blvd allowing for safe navigation around the curves in front of Stoneybrook. The trees serve as natural traffic calming helping to protect our children and pedestrians using the crosswalk.”<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n If you would like to contact the Lee County Commissioners to express your opinion on the matter their emails are as follows: \u00a0<\/p>\n The Gateway Services Community Development District (GSCCD) will also be discussing the fate of the Gateway Boulevard Trees at their regular meeting this Thursday, April 2nd at 3PM at the GSCCD office on Griffin Drive. Gateway residents are welcome to attend this meeting to express their opinions on the matter as well.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n\r\n\t\t
